Michelle Stone has over 15 years of teaching experience in New York City and Long Island Public Schools. Her reading and writing workshops were visited by teachers across districts as a model for balanced literacy instruction.
She shared her passion for best practices by leading professional development workshops and opening her classroom doors to colleagues as a lab site host for professional development from the Teachers College Reading and Writing Project of Columbia University. Michelle attended monthly workshops and summer institutes at Teachers College, where she also participated in yearlong leadership groups, contributing to the development of units of study, literacy practices, and research.
She has been working as a Literacy Consultant since 2010 supporting administrators, coaches, and teachers nationally in the area of balanced literacy and the implementation of reading and writing workshops. She has co-curated book lists along with Interactive Read Aloud Units that teach in depth reading skills and promote student conversation as well as customized units of study for the teaching of reading and writing for a variety of school districts.
Michelle holds a Bachelors of Science degree in Business, Masters of Science in Elementary education, and a Special Education Extension.
